Our defensive philosophy is based on the Crabbe-ology road map. We teach players that defense is the link to a winning team and players.  We help players identify their weaknesses, utilize their strengths, and develop a plan for future improvement.  


The Outfield

As an outfielder, we teach you to be well versed in understanding all variables in order to play gold glove caliber defense. The goal is to facilitate awareness of all aspects of outfield play through:   

  • Establishing a consistent pre-pitch routine (correct thoughts, understanding of situations, hitters etc.).
  • Establishing a good rhythm, tempo and timing of the feet in the proper sequencing.
  • Improving your first step reaction and reading of balls off the bat through specific drills geared to build awareness and feel improvements.  
  • Improving all angles of defensive play through specific drills.
  • Improving footwork and arm strength through specific drills.

30 Minute* outfield sessions include: 

  • Debrief –  5 minutes
  • Skill building – 15 minutes
  • Fungo reads – 10 minutes

*Great for showcases or tune-ups

1 Hour* outfield sessions include:  

  • Debrief –  5 minutes
  • Footwork and skill building –25 minutes
  • Fungo reads – 20 minutes
  • Video analysis – 10 minutes

The Infield

As an infielder, we teach living in the moment by learning to move on from mistakes that are physical and not repeat ones that are mental. The goal is to facilitate awareness of all aspect of infield play through:

  • Establishing a consistent pre-pitch routine (correct thoughts, understanding of situations, hitters etc.).
  • Establishing a good rhythm, tempo and timing of the feet in the proper sequencing.
  • Having a wide base while focusing on catching the ball slightly left of center or right of center for left-handers.
  • Learning how to utilize the proper glove action for specific types of groundballs.
  • Funneling the ball slightly to build power for throws.
  • Replacing the feet with quiet, controlled movements. 
  • Developing all skills based on your position (slow rollers, double play feeds and turns, fly balls, routine, and throwing). 
  • Moving at a pace that is conducive to consistency as opposed to speed.  
  • Learning to cut distance and not just charge the ball.   

30 Minute* infield sessions include: 

  • Debrief –  5 minutes
  • Skill building – 10 minutes
  • Groundball/Pop fly work – 15 minutes

1 Hour* infield sessions include:  

  • Debrief –  5 minutes
  • Throwing program/mechanics * position specific–10 minutes
  • Skill building – 30 minutes
  • Video analysis – 15 minutes
